Alex Prager’s photographs depart you with a wierd impression: if you face her Crowds, that are unfold out over the whole peak of the wall, you may assume, for a second, that you are within the presence of pictures taken on the spot. However the characters have too fastened a glance, the composition is just too sharp and the colors, shiny, reply too nicely.
The photographer and director is, in truth, a master in the art of staging: her photographs are meticulously composed and create a disturbance within the viewer. Referring to both Hollywood and experimental movies, to popular culture, and road images, Alex Prager’s works oscillate between reality and fiction, without the viewer figuring out if they are in a dream, a memory, or the reminiscence of a dream.
