Shade overwhelms Thailand’s architectural landscapes in Wuthipol Ujathammarat‘s new photographic zine.

With Urban Mess 2, the Thai artist, photographer, and graphic designer invitations us to discover Bangkok, his native city with its tropical climate, differently. His footage seize fragments of the city surroundings (constructing facades, automotive mirrors, visitors cones, stairs, balconies, home windows…) in a set of geometric strains.

Architecture, landscapes, and everyday surfaces turn out to be pictorial abstractions in vibrant photographs. The banal typically conceals sudden treasures.

Wuthipol Ujathammarat brilliantly paperwork all those strange, forgotten and uncared for details of the urban setting that turn into very aesthetic to our eyes. In this “dazzling tonal disorder” nestles “a type of graphic art,” as the photographer underlines, creating expressive compositions, by means of their visual deconstruction, in pastel or main colors. Even sunny shades where the shadow intermittently interferes.

His minimalist games multiply the surrealist perspectives, leaving free rein to interpretation.
