Winner of the Picto Grand Prize for Trend Images at this 24th edition, photographer Christopher Barraja unveils together with his intimate collection “De Chlore et de Rosé” a bewitching ode to intertwined bodies. In the middle of his numerous photographs, the photographer invites the viewer to journey in the hunt for an intoxicating iodized elsewhere.
As quickly as he obtained his baccalaureate, Christopher Barraja took off for the town of Marseille with the target of learning structure. Shortly realizing that this subject didn't resonate with him, the next yr he entered the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs (EnsAD) within the fifth arrondissement of Paris. It was from there that his curiosity in images was revealed, even taking him across the Atlantic: “During my trade at the Faculty of Visual Arts in New York, I had the chance to touch trend images, something I had never actually finished earlier than.”
Initially from the south of France, Barraja’s images highlights particulars typically invisible to the naked eye that only her being can ponder, as “the liquid, the ocean, its depth, its darkness” remain, unequivocally, a useful source of inspiration for the artist. At some point, one among his kin informed him this sentence from the e-book The Sect of the Selfish by the author Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt: “Only the small print are lovely in the universe, the entire is boring.” It was with these words that the invisible took on its full which means for the photographer, giving him the chance to precise himself freely in entrance of his lens: “Perhaps the small print try to inform us something, but we just don’t understand them.”
Christopher Barraja’s pictures are often dictated by his unconditional love for his surroundings. His inventive whimsy leads him right into a bewitching release continuously feeding his creativeness. “You think about their story, what they’re doing here, what they’re on the lookout for, and in some instances, what they’re going to seek out,” he says. This burning passion for the intimacy of his topics is anchored in his pictures with this ardent want to “confront typical parts in incongruous turns with a specific component.” Indeed, the tone of his photographs, typically pure, typically mineral, performs with “relationships of scale” comical, as could be the illustration of the kiss between two of his pals with the view – miniature – of a sailboat in the distance suggesting, in line with the photographer, “a departure, want, a moment too brief and yet eternal.
The photographer’s undertaking “De Chlore et de Rosé” shall be introduced on the 37th version of the Hyères pageant which can take place from October 13 to 16, 2022 at the Villa Noailles and will probably be revealed in e-book type. The artist can also be engaged on a brand new private sketch entitled La lumière d’un corps. “These two collections of pictures are necessary to me because they contact on themes which are intimately linked to my experience,” concludes the photographer.
