Prints/Overprints
The newest works by Eva Nielsen, that are being exhibited at the Galerie Jousse, are the result of an inventive residency with the tanners and silk staff hooked up to LVMH (LVMH Métiers d’artwork residency). They are additional proof of the good mastery and plastic inventiveness of the Franco-Danish artist, who has made the hybridization of methods her specialty. Mixing leather-based and silk, two virtually antagonistic materials, on the identical surface, her landscapes are like palimpsest photographs: as if laid down in successive layers, in superimpositions, the picture appears both one and a number of, unsure and floating.
This confusion is accentuated by the erosion of the floor, which seems to have been scraped off in locations, whereas it's actually the results of a superimposition of printed image residues (on organza), silk-screened leather fragments, and paint… Making the borders between mediums and motifs porous, Eva Nielsen also invents new temporalities: when the image disintegrates and the landscape turns into composite, the crossing of the gaze approaches the shore of goals…
