In 2009, designer Dirk van der Kooij determined to launch his own design studio with the firm intention of showing that any materials, no matter it's, could be reused. Plastic, metallic, leather… are used within the design of every piece of the designer’s numerous collections. Because of progressive machines, specially designed by the Kooij studio, the textured forms of the Sunflower lamp or the Chubby chair reveal a strangeness, typically singular, typically natural, particular to the design brand. The works of Dirk van der Kooij might be admired at MoMA in New York and San Francisco or on the Vitra Design Museum.

Three years later, the designer launched Chubby, a gourmand seat with infinite strains that creates an enigmatic movement. This shape is explained by the shortage of memory of the robotic in control of its manufacture, giving the Chubby chair an atypical character. Its composition? Ten kilos of recycled plastics, primarily from the inside of fridges. Obtainable in twelve colours – guava, pastel, yellow or brick – the pigments, combined by hand, are launched immediately in the course of the manufacture of the chair, made with the assistance of extrusion – a way that transforms a strong materials into a more versatile materials resulting from warmth. Like a still-warm marshmallow, the handcrafted structure of the furnishings makes every one distinctive. The Chubby chair remains a timeless basic of up to date design that is both thrilling and intriguing to today.
